Maryam Nassir Zadeh
I discovered Maryam Nassir Zadeh, this fantastic shop on the Lower East Side this past summer. I bought a really unique rubber and metal link ring that I covet. But when I was there I fell in love with these GENIUS necklaces made of nylon mesh and filled with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. Since I was formerly in the costume jewelry business, I must say it is not very often that I am impressed by costume jewelry. The price was a tad too steep for me, but I have wanted one ever since. In the past year they have been written up in every NYC magazine and I felt like everyone was in on my secret find.
So when I planned to hit the LES yesterday I wondered if Maryam Nassir still had them…I couldn’t do it. But luckily, friends happened to be in the hood and we met for cocktails. After 3 drinks I marched my ass right back there and bought one. This is the most I have spent on a jewelry item EVER. $275 + tax = $299. I am still feeling the guilt, but thank the US Govt for a large tax return (and for 2 iPads which are on order).
I am not much of a connoisseur of unaffordable apparel and accessories, so on this one I defer to the expert fashion writer at New York Mag…
‘Co-owners and couple Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Udar Kak stock this white-washed brick space with a curated selection of quirky-chic clothes, accent jewelry, sculptures, and oddities, like paper mobiles and archery arrows. Both have design degrees and international tastes, and fitted jackets and structured dresses by designers like Vena Cava and Isabel Marant are mixed in with lesser-known international names. Across the showroom, a retro-inspired rack bears dyed silk jumpsuits from Electric Feathers and Lindsay Thornburg vintage dresses. Accessories are strewn about on salvaged wooden desks and tables, including Time Bandit’s knit crystal necklaces, Michelle Lane’s twisted rope necklaces, Vanessa Dimoff’s metal “bark” bracelets, Anndra Neen’s oversized cuffs.’ — Molly Finkelstein
