Txikito
Txikito is a very convenient spot if you are doing an afternoon of Chelsea gallery hopping. It’s in a rather strange little strip mall, but the decor is actually pretty cool. It is that all-too-familiar-these-days reclaimed wood thing. Ceiling included. It has a cool blue mural in the back and a tiny bar up front. They serve Pork Slap on tap. That’s a first!
Txikito, pronounced ‘chic-kee-toe’ is a Basque (Spanish) restaurant specializing in the food of the Basque region which straddles the border between Spain and France. Basque food is known for its simplicity in ingredients and techniques. This used to be the only Basque restaurant in NYC prior to the recent opening of the new Bar Basque, and later Salinas.

Squid braised in its own ink. Quite a dish. Black and delicious.
Everything was light and delicious…somehow even the chorizo hash sandwich? And the blood sausage ‘bundles’? Go figure. I think it was just the tapas sized portions. We will surely visit again, likely for dinner. The menu looks outstanding and a chef friend recommended it to us.
We also noted a killer burger being served to most of the customers called
“EL DOBLE” HAMBURGER: 2 patties, smoked sheep’s milk cheese, “salsa especial” • 11
I think I would try this if I were super hungry. It looks like a heart attack.
This will be come a new regular spot for our gallery runs.
