Terroir – The Original
413 East 12th Street, New York, NY
The atmosphere here isn’t great and it is very small. However, the wine list is extensive and the bartenders know their wine. They are open to letting you taste until you find something to your liking. I wanted it to be better than it was. The name is so inspiring.
Terroir TriBeCa
24 Harrison St. – Tribeca
This offshoot opened since the writing of my first review. It pretty much gets the same rate except instead of hipsters, it’s a more mature Tribeca crowd. Additionally, the place is much larger and more attractive. The apps are so ridiculously priced it’s absurd. The cheese plates are about 1 bite per cheese. And the wines are quite odd, which I failed to mention in my first review. But I still give props to the bartenders who can steer you to the right obscure version of your favorite wine.
4/9/11 – We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were far fewer people than a Thursday night. Based on my last review of the small portions, I actually over-ordered the food! We got the small plates – olives, pickled veggies, mushrooms and beets. Then we split a calamari salad and a ham and cheese sandwich. Everything was pickled; everything including the condiments on the sandwich. But overall I was much more pleased with the visit and will return. Again, the wine list is very interesting but the staff is helpful in offering suggestions. Same story on the beer selections.
