Wogies Bar & Grill
Wogies has been a favorite of ours for almost 10 years. Being from PA, we are constantly craving Philly cheese steaks. And none ever really fit the bill. We searched for years until we finally found the right spot. Now whenever we get that craving it’s our go-to cheesesteak bar. If we are going with take-out, Carl’s Steaks is the winner. 99 Miles to Philly is almost as good as Wogies, but it’s a takeout/eat-in joint as opposed to a full service restaurant/bar.
The menu is short at sweet as it should be. The menu consists of Philly Cheese Steaks WID our WIDout onions, Old Standbys for non-cheese steak eaters, Wogies Original cardiac arrest-inducing concoctions, Krazy Kate’s Secret Family Recipe Wings available in various heat levels, Garbage Bread Italian bread filled with meat and cheese, and finally, all of the fried shit. I personally dig the giant waffle fries with my cheese steak. My fave is American Cheese, wid onions, green peppers and mushrooms. And a beer. Mmmm. I’m on a diet to lose some extra ‘In NYC’ pounds, so I decided to write this long overdue review to make myself drool. I also highly recommend the wings. And a beer. Mmmm. They absolutely rank among the best as well. I will admit to never wanting anything but a cheese steak or wings there, but the ‘Garbage Bread’ is suddenly having quite the appeal.
The atmosphere isn’t bad either although the booths have gotten nastier each year. It’s got huge windows facing both Greenwich Ave and Charles Streets which were very recently replaced. It’s got huge booths which could stand to be replaced. They look hand-made in the wood shop, i.e pine with dark stain and the cushions have seen better days. They have 4 flat screens and also consider themselves to be a ‘sports bar.’ The bar is also a good seating option, although there are not a ton of seats.
