Oliver Vernon – Sprung
These pieces are all acrylic and ink on paper, canvas or wood panel. They all depict the artist’s vision of the cosmos. The elements are inspired by the Northern California landscape in various abstractions. The elements carry throughout each piece but the color scheme changes from saturated color to vegetal tones to black and white. I have my (iPhone) photos arranged in that order below.
James Roper – All and Nothing
Oliver Vernon is a hard act to follow, but James Roper seems to be the perfect pairing. His acrylic paintings also burst with color. There is much more of a fabric folding and fluid influence to his work. The inspiration seemed to come from multiple cultures with figures as the focus. The figures are not quite human or animal. Frankly, I was digging his black and white pencil drawings which were mangled car parts and body parts. Apparently, these were the black and white drawings of an earlier painting series. I photographed only my favorite color piece. To see the other works, check out Liner’s website.
