Meade’s Bar – CLOSED
As former residents of Historic Front Street, we came to know every establishment in the Seaport area. Meade’s fast became one of our favorites. The staff is always friendly – props to bartenders Chano, Izzy and Katie as well as Angel in the kitchen. We’ve become friends over the years with the owner, Lee. We recommend this bar for a non-touristy, local spot to hang out should you find yourself in the South Street Seaport. It’s off of the mall area – at the end of Front Street make a left on Peck Slip. The view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the outdoor seats is fantastic. It’s nice to enjoy the cobblestone streets and historic architecture of the neighborhood with a drink in hand.
Meade’s is a two-floor historic brick building. The downstairs is the primary bar area with windows all around. Lee is an artist and displays his artwork as well as others’ at the bar. They’ve also got a large collection of classic board games, which can be fun for the afternoon.
As I mentioned, during the warmer months, they’ve got a good bit of outdoor seating. The upstairs has dining tables and is generally more mellow. There used to be a pool table up there, which maybe created a bit too much late night activity? The crowd is always friendly neighborhood folk, often with four-legged friends outside. It’s a rare occasion when we don’t meet new people at Meade’s.
The food is standard bar fare. We pretty much always order a shrimp cocktail, an excellent value at $10. Steve was always a fan of the Shrimp Po Boy and I like the Black Angus Burger. Our favorite has always been the house made New England Clam Chowder. All the apps are solid and if you are a Quesadilla fan, they’ve got a build your own. They’ve got a $12 all you can drink brunch special, which draws lazy Sunday locals. You’ve got a choice between bloodies, mimosas, screwdrivers or Cape Cods. They’ve got all the standard brunch fare plus build your own omelettes and egg sandwiches.
Good stuff. Good people with pups. Check it out if you’re in the hood.
