Eight Mile Creek – CLOSED
We first heard of Eight Mile Creek because we lived above the only New Zealand bar in NYC. This is one of a handful of Australian bars. Mostly, we’ve only had drinks there. I’ve even dug up some old shots which I’ve included.
For sure the interior space is very awkward with a narrow bar in the front and narrow seating to the rear. There is a downstairs bar called ‘The Creek Bar Downstairs’. Steve has gone a few times with nothing outstanding to report.
This visit was strictly to check out the outdoor situation. We’d only gone in winter. They are billed as outdoor dining, so we thought why not check it out? It’s also rather cleverly called the ‘Out-the-Back Garden’. Bad news. If you want to dine or drink outside this is not the place. It is nasty. Not only is there no view, but there is NO AIR either. We drank half a drink and moved inside.
We have eaten their bar food, but really nothing stood out. We recently read a feature about their food and we’ve honestly not sat down for a meal. I checked out the menu and a Barbequed Artichoke sounds awesome to me. They have the New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels we loved so much at Nelson Blue as well. The entrees seem pretty traditional. I would expect more beef, lamb and veal-centric but maybe that’s NZ? We’ll give it a shot sometime and add it to the review.
