Chef Josh Eden worked for Jean-Georges for 12 years prior to opening his own spot, which has been around since 2007. We went when it opened and was surrounded by much hype, new reviews and was packed every single night. We since decided to revisit while doing a Staycation at the James Hotel in Soho.
It was Friday of 4th of July weekend at about 8pm. We happened upon a nearly empty restaurant. We wondered if it had lost popularity or we were just the only ones staying in town? Not sure, but Shorty’s delivered perfect food. And we won’t forget about it again. The short ribs are famous, so we did a re-try to refresh our memory. And it was just as good as the first time. And no, it is not called Shorty’s .32 because the short ribs are $32, but it does seem a bit planned. The Chef’s nickname is Shorty and the restaurant has 32 seats.
Menu:
Fluke Daily Special $16
Grilled Shrimp, Apricot Chutney, Fresh Mint, Radishes, Salted Cashews $14
Sea Scallop, Lentils, Pancetta, Tarragon Crumbs $28
Braised Short Ribs, Elbow Macaroni, Grilled Scallions $32
