Lure Fishbar
For years we have frequented Lure Fishbar and somehow missed writing it up! We decided to revisit to make it official.
Lure’s interior looks like the inside of an elegant yacht, complete with portholes and a fiberglass ceiling. On one end is a sushi/raw bar, in the center is a huge dining area with several round booths, and the opposite side of the room is a rather large bar complete with booths for dining.
We have regularly visited their bar and the true standouts are the Bloody Mary with shrimp and oyster shooter, martinis and their wine list, which can get pricey by the glass – my favorite white burgundy is $20/glass and pinot noir $18. Sometimes, it is cheaper and more effective to go with the martinis at $13. Also, two bar staples for us are the rock shrimp tempura and the shrimp cocktail. Their rock shrimp tempura is my second favorite in NYC. The first is Morimoto.
A lunch-time favorite was a burger that had recently won Best Burger in NYC by Chef Josh Capon. It has since migrated to their newest restaurant, Burger & Barrel and is known as the Bash Burger. It’s made with bacon jam!
The dinner menu is mainly raw bar and sushi based, but they also serve solid entrees. Again, the shrimp tempura is offered here as an appetizer. Another fantastic option is the fried Blue Point oysters. They are served over cole slaw with caper sauce in their shells. We are big fans of the individual pieces of sushi and they do offer sushi specials daily. On our last visit we tried miso-cured salmon in addition to the usual fare…big eye tuna, scallops, octopus. We like the avocado eel roll too.
This is among the few and far between places we continue to patronize. Always a good meal, always good service and always a good time.
