We discovered a little spot called Bar Blanc a couple of years ago. Most often we stopped in there for a drink and nosh while in the West Village. We did eat dinner there once as well. It was never too busy, but we liked it quite a bit. Maybe that’s why!
They turned over to a new concept called Low Country. It is down home southern cookin’ and the decor changed to piles of vintage LP’s and green accented banquettes. They specialize in bourbon and bourbon cocktails. Oddly enough, it still feels like the same place even with the re-model. And the owner who was always there is still there but with longer hair.
I was rather fond of the fried pig’s ears at Bar Blanc (everyone thought I was nuts on that one). But I must say Low Country has wowed me with a couple of items, primarily the Fried Chicken Biscuit. Also of note are the bacon deviled eggs, bourbon chicken liver mousse and Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich.
Recently, we dropped in for a brunch. We really had no idea they were open for brunch, so this was a nice treat. Steve ordered a bloody Mary and it came garnished with BACON. YUM. I had a John Daly, which was great too. This was not a day for adventure. We both knew exactly what we wanted…

Any spot in the West Village usually catches our attention, but especially Low Country! We won’t lie, it could be due to the phrase “garnished with bacon.”
Try the bash burger at Burger and Barrel. It has ‘bacon jam’.
Admittedly, we have no idea what bacon jam would be, but we’re definitely excited to try it! Thanks, Jennifer!
