214 Sullivan Street – West Village
The first time we saw Urban Sun we had no idea what to expect. We had a whirlwind tour weekend planned for the in-Laws of continuous entertainment. First we went to see Everett Bradley’s Holidelic, which is an annual must-see funk-a-delic Christmas show at Joe’s Pub. As if that were not enough entertainment for the evening, my husband planned more funk. I was seriously worried that nothing could be better than what we had just seen. Much to our surprise, this band BLEW US AWAY.
Urban Sun is an eight piece band who plays funk, rock and soul. The lead singer is a little guy with a big voice and some quirky dance moves. And he’s got a really special energy. I remember the first time we just grinned through the whole thing. This is a live performance that should not be missed.
This show was the CD release party for their new album ‘Trunk Jam’. CD’s are $10. Check out their website for audio samples.
I will add that if you are an adult, you may want see Urban Sun somewhere OTHER than Sullivan Hall. But if that’s all they’re playing just go. Drink heavily to deal with the crowd. You will not regret seeing this band.
