913 Broadway – Flatiron
We discovered punch years ago when we lived in N Chelsea. The key here was brunch service starts at 10 am instead of the standard 11:30. The service was never great that early as they only had one bartender serving as waiter and bartender. But they always had a great bloody and a couple of truly good items, one of which was the eggs Benedict and the other was a cheddar grits dish.
So we had errands that took us to Flatiron and it was early. What about Punch? It has a little area in front for open door people watching without actually sitting on the street which is always good.
We ordered up two bloodies and they were the same deep smoky red we remembered. But the only available Benedict was with lobster for $20. I ordered fried eggs with cheddar grits, but it was not the poached dish I remember by far. And it was served with over deep fried bacon and overcooked sausage. Steve ordered an open-faced make your own omelette with bacon, tomato and cheddar cheese. While everything was OK, meh. We won’t go running back anytime soon.
Choices of 3: Ham, Bacon, Mushroom, Tomatoes, Onions, Asparagus, Goat Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Swiss Cheese
Smoked Bacon, Pork Sausage
When we left it was still deserted.
Also of note, there is a Wine Bar upstairs called Wined Up. We did visit once or twice when we lived in the neighborhood and enjoyed it.
