Our friend Frank, formerly of Meade’s in the South Street Seaport, got a new gig at a really fabulous spot. Steve tried only one bit of food, which naturally was the fish taco. He was impressed and that’s impressive. It looked really tasty! Actually, there was split opinion at the bar on which was the favorite. The fish was Frank’s pick.
tacos 12
coca cola carnitas ~ con cebolla-cilantro
pico beer-battered cod fish ~ cucumber slaw y avocado crema
pig ass al pastor ~ piña y cured red onion
grilled chicken ~ con queso, maduro, y mole
vegetales del dia ~ black beans y queso
The BIG wins at El Camion are the vast selection of margaritas and tequilas. Your choice of flavor, tequila and rim spice. Each one is better than the next!
The house margarita comes in a variety of sizes and flavors on the rocks or frozen. Classic and blood orange are both amazing! Frank calls the grande the Alpha Omega – the beginning and the end. When you see the size of one, it’s easy to see how that would be the case! And his margarita pick is mango on the rocks with a spicy rim.
margaritas de la casa
herradura, triple sec, simple syrup, fresh lime juice
rocks~ pequeña 10 mediana 13 grande 20
frisada~ pequeña 8 mediana 11 grande 18
strawberry, raspberry, coconut, guava, mango, tamarind, peach, pomegranate, blood orange
This is the blood orange…I posted this via Instagram on a few social networks and it went viral. Note to self: post pink drinks, slices of pizza. Not foie gras. C’est la vie.
Also pretty great is the hibiscus margarita with tanteo jalapeño, fresh lime juice, agave and hibiscus for $9.
The girl next to me at the bar had a teal drink to go with her nails…note the yellow accent nail. No clue what the drink was, but she looked fabulous with it! Instagram shot…
We’ll be going back to check out more of the menu! We’ve gone in twice and both times did some heavy margarita drinking!!
Here’s two shots from El Camion’s website to draw you in…
