Aamanns Copenhagen – CLOSED
Aamanns Cohpenhagen bills itself as an authentic Danish Culinary experience in NYC specializing in smørrebrød or open-faced sandwiches on rye bread. The decor is the ultimate in Danish design of which I am a huge personal fan. The space has incredibly high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows, drenching the space in great light.
We were rather fascinated with the charcoal stick serving as a filter in our water bottle. I looked it up and it seems to be a Japanese tradition rather than Danish, but what a fantastic idea!
We ordered a couple of smørrebrød. The waitress did tell us they were small, but we were cool with a light snack for lunch. They were perfect size and quite delicious, although both of us preferred the roast beef. And that sunlight made for some gorgeous pics!

Our only complaint was the service. It was incredibly slow. We were not in any kind of hurry, but it was very difficult to get the waitress’ attention. The owner was present and chatting with Danish friends and not really paying attention to the guests until it was time to exit, when he chatted people up. Overall, we enjoyed the relaxing experience and I will for sure go back to Aamanns Copenhagen as a refuge during a a shopping day in Soho.
